LEDUC, AB – A pair of top-five finishes for Medicine Hat ringette teams over the weekend at U16 and U19 Open A provincials in Leduc.

On Sunday morning, the Medicine Hat U16A Mission pulled off a 7-2 victory over the Bowview Rage to earn the bronze medal and a third place finish in Alberta.

After winning their first three games, the Mission fell 8-3 to the Bowview Royals in the semi-finals on Saturday, but were still able to come away with some hardware.

As for the U19A division, the Medicine Hat Penguins had a rough round-robin with three straight losses to the Leduc Jaguars, Bowview Fury, and Edmonton Shock.

Knocked down to the relegation bracket, the Penguins were able to pull off 6-5 and 8-4 wins over the Spruce Grove Mayhem and Red Deer Rush to end their season with a fifth place finish at provincials.

While the U16A and U19A teams are now done for the season, a number of Medicine Hat clubs are still gearing up for their own provincial tournaments.

Three tournaments begin next weekend including U12B provincials in Strathmore and U16B provincials in St. Albert.

Medicine Hat will play host to the U14A tournament as well, which will get underway on March 9 and run through the weekend.
