Medalta looking for ways to keep the community engaged

MEDICINE HAT – Medalta is looking to the community for help in reaching its goals over the next four years.

At a meeting Wednesday evening the organization released its latest strategic plan.

The plan is based on a survey it conducted and led to the development of six main goals.

The goals are to find ways to encourage sustainability, revitalizing of the infrastructure, focus on the Historic Clay District collections, engage the community and create greater awareness, onsite experiences and finally, making Medalta a tourism destination.

Executive Director Aaron Nelson said the number one goal is sustainability.

In recent years there have been cuts to the amount of money Medalta receives from Federal and Provincial government grants.

“We did the analysis, 26 percent of our operating funds come from government sources,” Nelson explained. “The remaining we earn, we fundraise for, we partner with, so we’re realizing that maybe we’re going to have to do more of that moving forward.”

Nelson said they want the public to offer ways to keep people coming to Medalta and creative ways to generate revenue.
