MEDICINE HAT, AB — A man arrested on New Year’s Day on multiple charges after a vehicle was rammed into a local car dealership is heading to trial next month.

Robert Handy, 27, appeared in Medicine Hat provincial court on Thursday, where a trial was set for April 30 in Medicine Hat.

The Red Deer man was arrested on January 1 and was charged with break and enter, theft, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, possession of break and enter tools and three counts of breach of probation.

The investigation started after police received a report of a stolen Honda Civic, which crashed into the doors at Davis GMC Buick. The driver of the car fled the scene.

Police say later that morning, a stolen Ford F-350 was found driving erratically in the city. The truck had a mechanical malfunction, allowing officers to apprehend the driver.

Handy has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
