Mandel wins Alberta Party leadership

Edmonton, AB –  Stephen Mandel is the new leader of the Alberta Party.
 
The former mayor of Edmonton and provincial health minister, won 66 per cent of the vote on the first round of balloting.
 
Mandel defeated Calgary legislature member Rick Fraser and energy lawyer Kara Levis.
Mandel is 72 years old and was the mayor of Edmonton for almost ten years, ending in 2013.
 
He also served as the health minister in the previous Progressive Conservative party until they were defeated by the NDP in 2015.
 
He inherits a party which has three members in the legislature but won just two per cent of the popular vote in 2015.
