MEDICINE HAT, AB — Local boxer Janick Lacroix has successfully defended his provincial championship.
Lacroix, who trains at the Medicine Hat Boxing Club, was victorious at the Alberta Provincial Boxing Championships in Stony Plain on February 24 and 25. On Saturday, he defeated Terrence Reig out of Lethbridge and defeated Ethan Pasck on Sunday to claim the championship. Both bouts were in the Jr. C. Open category, with a 70 kilogram weight limit.
With the win, LaCroix has qualified for the Boxing Canada National Championship, which will be held in Edmonton from March 28 to April 1. Last year, LaCroix came home with a silver medal after losing a unanimous decision to Quebec’s Christopher Guerrerro in the 70 kg finals.
