Mohawks swept by Cardston High to close out weekend

CARDSTON, AB – February has not been a kind month for the Medicine Hat High Mohawks basketball teams, as their struggles continued again on Saturday in Cardston.

Both the Senior and JV Mohawks were coming off blowout losses at the hands of the LCI Rams in Lethbridge, and were looking to get back on track against the Cougars.

The Senior Mohawks and Cougars traded punches on Saturday, with Cardston High coming out on top in a 69-63 decision.

Post Bailey Gosse led the team with 22 points in the loss, while Eidan Jonker finished second on the team in scoring with 19 points to his credit.

Losing six of their last seven games, the Mohawks have fallen to a 3-8 record and remain in sixth place in the conference.

Offence came as a struggle for the JV Mohawks meanwhile, failing to score over 50 points in a 98-42 defeat at the hands of the Cougars.

Austin Walton was tops on his team with 10 points, with the team’s remaining 12 players only combing for 32 points.

The Mohawks have lost their last four consecutive games, sitting with a record of 2-9 record and seventh place standing.

Returning for home games on Tuesday night, the Mohawks welcome the Winston Churchill Bulldogs to town.
