Blood Tribe Police and RCMP working together in homicide investigation following death of a Standoff man

STAND OFF, AB. – A 40-year-old man from the Blood Indian Reserve in Standoff has died after allegedly being exposed to extreme weather conditions for an unknown amount of time.

Members of the Blood Tribe Police Service and Blood Tribe EMS were called to a residence in Standoff in the early morning hours of Feb. 24 about a man in medical distress.

After police arrived, they transported the man to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, where he was later pronounced dead.

Blood Tribe Police have partnered with the RCMP Major Crimes Unit South and the Forensic Identification Section for this investigation.

RCMP say the scene remains secured by police pending an autopsy, which has been scheduled for Monday, Feb. 26 at 9:30 a.m. at the Calgary Medical Examiner’s Office.

No additional details are available at this time as the investigation is continuing.
