Feb 22, 2018 | 6:46 AM

Cypress County, AB. – Crews with Fortis Alberta are working to restore power to people living southwest of Medicine Hat, in Cypress County.

An outage map on the Fortis web site shows repair work is underway in an area near Range Road 70 and Township road 122.

Earlier, crews were repairing another outage along Range road 63, just outside the city limits.

Fortis is working to update us on the cause of the outages.  The repair work on Range Road 70  is expected to be complete around 9 this morning.

143 customers are affected by the outage.

We will update this as more information becomes available.

Update 9 am

Fortis says a broken conductor  responsible for a power outage that affected 352 customers in Cypress County has been repaired.

Fortis says these types of failures can occur in periods of extreme cold weather, due to expansion and contraction.

The power went out around 4:33 this morning.  Fortis was able to restore some service by switching some customers to another feed at 7:25, before the final repairs were complete and power restored to everyone at around 8:10 am.

Fortis says there will be one more outage lasting about one minute, as they switch the service back to the repaired line.

That will happen around 9:30 this morning.
