Dintheer earns bronze, Zone 1 wins three medals at Alberta Winter Games

WOOD BUFFALO, AB – Three medals for Zone 1 on the opening day of the 2018 Alberta Winter Games, including one medal for a Medicine Hat native.

Local Brandon Dintheer managed to hit the podium on Friday, picking up a fencing bronze medal in the men’s foil event.

Brooks’ Berlin Kreutzer earned a silver for Zone 1 in the junior floor gymnastics event with a score of 9.625, while Kristina Jensen out of Duchess took home a bronze for fencing in the women’s epee.

It was a busy day for Medicine Hat fencers in general, with Emily Warwick (women’s sabre) and Michael Woods (men’s epee) finishing just off the podium in fourth.

Medicine Hat’s Madalena Caparini earned a fifth-place finish in the women’s foil event, while it was an eighth-place showing in the men’s sabre.

Still looking for their first gold medal, Zone 1 sits in fifth place in the overall medal tally with one silver and two bronze.

Zone 6 (Edmonton) is in first place after the opening day with four golds and eight medals, with Zone 3 tied in medals but with only two gold to their credit.

The 2018 Alberta Winter Games run through Monday in the Wood Buffalo region.
