EDMONTON — Families across Alberta have the opportunity to reel in some fun this weekend.

The province is hosting one of two free Family Fishing Weekends across the province this Family Day weekend. Families are able to fish at any of Alberta’s lakes this weekend, with no fishing licence required.

“Fishing allows us to spend quality time with each other while also providing a connection to nature that improves our health and well-being,” said Shannon Phillips, Minister of Environment and Parks, in a news release. “Family Fishing Weekend also helps anglers introduce children to Alberta’s diverse ecosystems and fish species and I encourage all Albertans to join in this wonderful experience.”

The province hosts Free Fishing Weekends twice a year, once on Family Day, and again in July.
