Tigers rookie Kaeden Lane taking WHL call-up in stride

MEDICINE HAT, AB – If you take a look on the Tigers bench this upcoming Saturday, you may see a fresh face riding the pine.

That fresh face is 16-year old rookie Kaeden Lane, who’s been called up to backup Michael Bullion for the stretch run. After a solid training camp with the Tabbies, Lane has been on the radar for quite some time.

That’s catching the attention of veteran defenceman Dalton Gally.

“Well first of all I’m super proud that he’s here,” said Gally. “We all know that he’s a good player, he really left an impression in training camp way back in August. He’s awesome, he’s looking really good in practice, he’s saving a lot of pucks out there. The best thing though for him is that he’s just a sponge, he’s learning everything he possibly can and Bullion has done a good job of taking him under his wing. Hopefully he can learn as much as he can and next year hopefully he has a shot at making the team.”

Making the team full-time in 2018-19 is definitely something that is on the young goaltender’s mind.

“My goal would ultimately be make the team and play here, that’s my main goal right now and focus,” said Lane.

Back in Burnaby, Lane has dominated C.S.S.H.L play. Boasting a 16-1-0 record, a goals-against-average of 1.44, and a save percentage of .946. Although he plays on a dominant squad, he is still averaging 27 shots against per game, making his stats that much more impressive.

Lane has two practices under his belt and travels with the Tigers Friday night for a home-and-home with the powerhouse Swift Current Broncos, which gets underway at 6:00 pm. The Tabbies swing back to Medicine Hat Saturday, puck drop is slated for 7:30 pm at the Canalta Centre.
