MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers thrilled their fans and showcased their abilities at the team’s annual Skills Competition Tuesday night.

Two teams, captained by David Quenneville and Mark Rassell, took part in seven competitions for fans at the Canalta Centre, with Team Rassell winning 4-3.

“It was really fun,” said Quenneville. “Anytime you get to showcase for the fans, have kind of a loose night, and enjoy things, it’s always really special.

“Anytime we get to just have fun as a team, relax and give back, is always great.”

David Quenneville was victorious for his team during most accurate shot competition and the hardest slapshot competition. In the latter competition, Quenneville’s shot was recorded at 94 miles per hour.

The two teams also performed in the showtime shootout, which saw players get creative in their goal scoring attempts.

Among the highlights: Baxter Anderson appearing to teleport in front of the net to score, Cole Clayton dressing up as a cowboy to lasso goaltender Kaeden Lane to score and Trevor Longo impersonating Mark Rassell, giving his side the win in the event.

“Being the defending champion, everyone expected me to come out there and win it, and you know, Longo, he did that for me,” said Rassell following the event.

Rassell adds the event is all about fun for the fans.

“That’s what this night is about, personalities” he said. “Fans see that there are players underneath these jerseys.”

The event raised money for the MS Society of Southeastern Alberta.
