MEDICINE HAT, AB — A former RCMP constable facing a sexual assault charge briefly appeared in the Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench Friday morning.

Elliott Teed, 32, appeared via closed-circuit television from New Brunswick. He was charged with one count of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust stemming from a traffic stop near Bow Island in February 2015.

Teed was ordered to stand trial last year on the charges following a preliminary hearing last year. Details from the hearing are under a publication ban.

During his court appearance, Teed told the judge that his RCMP appointed lawyer had resigned from his file, and that he had not yet obtained new counsel for the charges.

The judge reminded Teed that he needs to have a lawyer in place, as a pre-trial conference is set for March 1.

Teed, who was suspended from his duties following the alleged incident, also told the court he has since resigned from the RCMP, and is now living in New Brunswick.

Teed is next scheduled to appear for arraignment at the Court of Queen’s Bench on March 9. His trial is still scheduled from March 19-23 in Medicine Hat.
