MEDICINE HAT, AB — A man arrested last April on several firearms charges has entered guilty pleas on several of his charges prior to the start of his trial.

Denver Ailsby, who was scheduled for a two-day trial at Medicine Hat provincial court, pleaded guilty to four charges on Thursday.

Ailsby pleaded guilty to two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm, and one count each of careless storage of a firearm and  possession of a prohibited firearm.

Ailsby, along with 31-year-old Brandalyn Brandham, was arrested April 13 in Irvine following an investigation by Redcliff RCMP and the Medicine Hat Police Service. Police seized 10 firearms, bear spray, boxes of ammunition, four homemade silencers, prohibited magazines and 20 grams of marijuana.

Three of the firearms seized were prohibited due to a modified barrel length, according to a news release from police at the time of the arrest.

Brandham pleaded guilty in September to one charge of unsafe storage of a firearm, and received a nine-month conditional sentence.

Ailsby returns to provincial court on May 16 for sentencing.
