BROOKS, AB – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are elated to announce that 1997-born forward Will Garin (Mound, MN) has committed to attend and play for Bentley University, beginning in the 2018-19 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) hockey season.

Located in Waltham, Massachusetts, the Falcons play in the NCAA Division I Atlantic Hockey conference, under 16th-year head coach Ryan Soderquist, a two-time Atlantic Hockey Coach of the Year.

“Will joined us early this season and made an immediate impact on our lineup,” said Bandits head coach and general manager Ryan Papaioannou. “He solidified our play making ability up front along with adding a much-needed presence to our power play. He is a great skater and handles the puck extremely well.”

Garin, 20, joined the Bandits in late October, and has since become the team’s fourth-highest scorer on a point-per-game basis, with 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) in 25 games played. His 11 goals rank 7th on the team. His brief Bandit career has featured six multi-point games, with a hat trick on December 9th at home against Olds.

The 5’10”, 175lb forward began the season with the Central Illinois Flying Aces of the United States Hockey League (USHL), the league in which he had spent the prior season as well.

Prior to his junior career, he played five seasons for Holy Family Catholic High School in the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), where he led the team in scoring in 2015-16 with 47 points (24 goals, 23 assists) in 23 games, adding 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 21 games playing for Team Northeast in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League (UMHSEL).

“Coming to Brooks, Will was in search of a Division I commitment and we are happy to have played a role in his success,” Papaioannou added. “We are looking forward to working with Will for the remainder of this season before his departure to Bentley.”

He is the second Bandit to commit to Bentley, joining former team alternate captain and current Falcon Charlie Marchand (Calgary, AB).

Garin is the tenth Bandit on the current team roster committed to an NCAA Division I school, joining:

• Nic Hamre (University of Vermont)
