MEDICINE HAT, AB – A Canadian squash player is just two wins away from a tournament victory on home soil, as the 2018 Ralph’s Texas Bar Open enters its second-last day in Medicine Hat.

On Friday, Calgary’s Andrew Schnell defeated fellow Canadian and second-seed Shawn Delierre in straight sets (11-1, 11-9, 11-3) to advance to the tournament semi-finals on Saturday.

Looking to book his spot in the finals, Schnell will be facing England fourth-seed George Parker, who took down Juan Camilo Vargas from Venezuela in three sets (11-9, 11-9, 11-5).

Their semi-final matchup will be held at the Medicine Hat Downtown YMCA at 3:00 pm with a spot in the championship finals on the line.

Top-seed Youssef Soliman needed five sets to advance to Saturday’s semi-final, as the Egyptian outlasted France’s Baptiste Masotti 11-3, 9-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-5.

Soliman will meet up with unseeded Victor Crouin from France in the semis, who upset third-seed Alfredo Avila out of Mexico in four sets (11-4, 13-11, 3-11, 11-9).

That semi-final meeting will be held just before the Schnell-Parker matchup at 2:00 pm.
