Alberta releases curriculum survey results

EDMONTON — The provincial government has released results from last year’s school curriculum survey.

According to Education Minister David Eggen, more than 9,000 Albertans took part in the survey in May and June 2017, with the results showing support for a curriculum “that will give students a strong foundation in reading, writing and math,” a statement reads.

The survey adds Albertans want the curriculum to help students develop skills such as effective communication and problem solving.

“It’s clear that Albertans are passionate about making sure that students learn the skills they need to succeed in a fast-changing world,” Eggen stated in a news release. “

“Our government will continue to consult with Albertans to make common-sense changes to the curriculum. Between both of our curriculum surveys, we’ve heard from tens of thousands of Albertans about this important work.”

A curriculum survey was last completed in Fall 2016.

In June 2016, the provincial government began a rewrite of the curriculum in six subjects: language arts (English, French), mathematics, social studies, sciences, arts, and wellness education. The review is still ongoing.
