SCHULER, AB — The Prairie Rose School Division celebrated the official grand opening of the new Schuler School this week.

The school held a special ceremony at the school Wednesday morning, which featured speeches from Speaker of the Legislature Bob Wanner, Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Drew Barnes, and students and staff at the school.

“A lot of people have been waiting for this day,” says Prairie Rose School Division board chair Stuart Angle. “The new Schuler School will be here for many generations of families from Hilda, Schuler and area to enjoy.

“It will serve as an educational hub for present and future children, host families and community events, and be a centralized location for celebration and collaboration.”

The school was originally announced as a modernization in 2014, but the project shifted to a rural prototype construction project that was funded at $6.65 million. The size of the building, along with the construction budget, increased following $1.33 million in donations.
