MIRABEL, Que. — Quebec provincial police were combing a rural road north of Montreal on Thursday where two men were shot inside a car, with one succumbing to his wounds.

Two men called the local police in Mirabel, about 65 kilometres north of Montreal, for help after taking refuge in the parking lot of a gas station near Highway 15 late Wednesday.

A 24-year-old man was pronounced dead while another man, 40, was transported to hospital with serious injuries and is expected to survive.

Provincial police were called in to take over the investigation and have determined there were two scenes as the shooting took place a few kilometres away.

“The gas station was where emergency services were called, but we know the event took place a little bit further away,” said spokeswoman Joyce Kemp.

Kemp said both victims were known to police but homicide investigators don’t have any motive for the shooting or any suspects.

Provincial police have put a security perimeter in place and set up a mobile command post in Mirabel’s St. Janvier district.
