Man charged with uttering threats has matters adjourned one week

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A man charged with emailing threats towards the mayor, the Prime Minister and city police had his bail hearing adjourned once again.

William Benham made a brief appearance in Medicine Hat provincial court, where he was adjourned until February 7.

Benham, 52, was been charged with one count of uttering threats to cause damage to property and one count of uttering threats to cause death after allegedly sending threatening emails to several inboxes in the city, including Mayor Ted Clugston, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Medicine Hat Police Service.

According to a police news release, the emails included general threats against government, as well as specific threats directed towards the Prime Minister. To date, police say the investigation has not revealed a specific plan to carry out the threats.
