AHS reports new flu death in South Zone

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Alberta Health Services have reported another person has died from lab-confirmed influenza in the South Zone.

The weekly influenza report, released on Thursday, shows three people in the South Zone, which includes Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, have died since the season began in October. AHS doesn’t release any information about people who have died from influenza for privacy reasons

A total of 55 people across Alberta have died from the disease, including 24 in Calgary, 16 in Edmonton, eight in the Central Zone, and four in the North Zone.

A total of 2,012 Albertans have been hospitalized with lab-confirmed influenza. The majority of hospitalizations are in Calgary, with 894. Edmonton has had 657 people hospitalized, the North Zone has had 184 hospitalizations, 151 people have been hospitalized in the South Zone, and 126 people have been hospitalized in the Central Zone.
