RED DEER, AB — The Red Deer Rebels have a knack for ending losing streaks against the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Mason McCarty’s two-goal performance led the way in a 4-1 victory over the Orange and Black, snapping a season long 13-game slide on Tuesday night. The last time Red Deer won a game was Dec. 15 — also a 4-1 win over the Tigers which ended a stretch of 11 straight losses.

Jaeger White notched the lone goal for the Tigers, his seventh of the season to open the scoring 4:42 into the game. Gary Haden and Elijah Brown collected helpers. Michael Bullion made 28 saves in the Tigers fourth loss in a row. The Tigers record over the last 10 games is now 3-4-3-0.

McCarty, playing his final season in the WHL, locked the game at 1-1 later in the first period. After a scoreless second, the Blackie, AB product fired home the game winner — Red Deer’s first win at home since Oct. 28 against Regina.

Grayson Pawlenchuk and Kristian Reichel also scored for the Rebels, who improve to 11-25-8-3 to no longer sit last place in the league. The two points leap-frogs the Rebels overtop of Edmonton, who’ve spent much of the season at the bottom of the standings.

Rebels ‘tender Ethan Anders was nearly unbeatable in goal, stopping 36 of 37 fired his way.

Faceoff’s tilted the home team’s way as well, winning 45 of 72 or 62.5%.

Medicine Hat remains first place in the Central Division, five points clear of the Lethbridge Hurricanes who dropped a 7-3 decision against the Kootenay ICE.

A quick-turnaround for the Tabbies, shipping up to Edmonton to take on the Oil Kings before heading back home for a date with the Kelowna Rockets at the Canalta Centre on Friday.
