CALGARY — A father in Olds has been arrested and charged for allegedly committing sexual offences against his own daughter.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit announced the arrest on Thursday. ICE alleges the 32-year-old man sexually assaulted and made child pornography involving his daughter.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, was initially arrested on January 4, with the assistance of Olds RCMP. The investigation began in October 2017 after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children provided information about an Alberta-based suspect sharing child pornography via social media. It is not believed that photos of his daughter were distributed online.

A number of computers and electronic devices were seized, and during the forensic examination, investigators recovered photos which appeared to show the suspect’s daughter being sexually assaulted.

It is not believed that photos of his daughter were distributed online, ICE says.

The man is charged with sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual interference, making child pornography, possessing child pornography, accessing child pornography and distributing child pornography.

He is expected to appear in court on January 19.

Alberta Children’s Services has been advised of the investigation and is providing assistance. The child is receiving help from a variety of support services.
