Edmonton parents charged with child endangerment after gun, drugs found in home

EDMONTON, AB — Two parents in Edmonton are facing multiple firearm, drug and child endangerment charges after police found fentanyl, marijuana and illegal firearms in their home.

Police arrested the parents on January 12 at a residence in the city’s southwest. Search warrants were expedited after investigators learned two children, an infant and a toddler, were also residing in the residence and potentially at risk.

Police discovered 109 fentanyl pills, marijuana in various forms, two handguns and more than $90,000 in cash.

The parents, who cannot be identified in order to protect the identities of the children, are facing two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a restricted firearm, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, two counts of possession of body armour, two counts of causing a child to to be in need of intervention and two counts of abandoning and exposing a child to risk.

The two are also charged with one count each of possession of a controlled substance, simple possession, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm with the serial number defaced, and possession of a prohibited magazine.

The children were apprehended by the EPS Child at Risk Response Team.
