Medicine Hat man charged after threatening emails sent to police, mayor’s office and Prime Minister

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Medicine Hat man has been charged after allegedly emailing threats to the Medicine Hat Police Service, the Mayor’s Office and the Prime Minister’s office.

William Benham, 52, has been charged with one count of uttering threats to cause damage to property and one count of uttering threats to cause death.

The emails included general threats against government, as well as specific threats directed towards the Prime Minister. To date, police say the investigation has not revealed a specific plan to carry out the threats.
