Former Tiger Linden Vey named to Team Canada for Olympics
CALGARY, AB — The hockey team that will represent Canada at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang next month has officially been unveiled.
Hockey Canada announced the roster in Calgary Thursday morning, made up mostly of players in European leagues. Willie Desjardins, former coach of the Vancouver Cancucks and the Medicine Hat Tigers, who recently guided Canada toa Spengler Cup championship, is coaching the team.
Former Tiger Linden Vey, who currently plays for BARYS ASTANA in the Kontinental Hockey League, was among those selected for the team. Vey played under Desjardins during his time with the Tigers, and spent stints with the Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames, in addition to playing with the Manchester Monarchs, Utica Comets and Stockton Heat in the AHL.
Several Alberta players cracked the team, including forwards Rob Klinkhammer (Lethbridge), Rene Bourque (Lac La Biche), Gilbert Brule (Edmonton), Brandon Kozun (Calgary), Mason Raymond (Cochrane), defencemen Mat Robinson (Calgary) and Karl Stollery (Camrose).
