MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat police are reminding motorists to practice safe driving during the most recent cold snap after responding to a motor vehicle collision Thursday morning.

Police and firefighters were called to a single vehicle collision on the eastbound Trans -Canada Highway near the Brier Park overpass shortly after 8 a.m. A two-door Acura Type S car was driving east on the highway making the curve when the back end of the car slid out due to the icy roads. The driver lost control, went into the ditch and hit a street lamp.

The driver, a 16-year-old male, along with his two male passengers only sustained minor injuries, but the damage to the car was extensive. No charges are being laid against the driver, and alcohol is not a factor in the collision.

Police add while emergency workers were on scene, a vehicle was stopped after it was identified as speeding through the scene. A 20-year-old driver was charged with speeding.
