Gerry Petryk, member of Tigers during first season, passes away

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A former member of the Medicine Hat Tigers has passed away.

The Tigers announced Thursday morning that Gerry Petryk, a member of the first Medicine Hat Tigers team in 1970, passed away. An obituary states he passed away Tuesday at the age of 66 in Medicine Hat.

Petryk, according to his obituary, was born in Manitoba and joined the Medicine Hat Tigers at the age of 19 during their first season in 1970. He scored 15 goals and added 51 assists during his lone season with the team.

The Tigers described Petryk as an active and engaged member of the Tigers alumni once his WHL career ended, noting he was a regular participant in alumni events, including the annual Alumni Golf Tournament.
