CALGARY, AB – Wins have been few and far between for the SEAC Minor Midget Tigers this year, but it was a chance to celebrate on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over the CNHA Canucks in Calgary.

Before Saturday’s game, the Tigers were without a win since a 6-4 victory over the AC Avalanche that came on November 18, marking the start of a nine-game losing skid.

SEAC opened the scoring 3:19 into the game, as blueliner Kagen Rude found the back of the net on the power play to give the Tigers the early lead.

The Canucks responded three minutes later though, tying up the game at 1-1 following a shot from Jackson Young.

Tied just over the midway point of the second period, Spencer Mehlen scored the eventual game-winner on the power play to put SEAC ahead 2-1.

The Tigers were a wall defensively in the third period with only five shots against, breaking their losing skid with a 2-1 win over the Canucks.

An excellent showing between the pipes for starter Nate Hoffman, registering a win with just one goal allowed on 34 shots.

Improving to 3-18-1 on the season, the last-place Tigers are four points away from catching the NWCAA Bruins for 12th place in the South Division.

Now trying to string together a win streak, SEAC will remain in Calgary on Sunday for a test against the Calgary Royals Blue squad at 2:45 pm.

The SEAC Bantam AAA Tigers were also in action on Saturday, playing host to the Red Deer AAA Rebels in Brooks.

Vaughn Strutt got the scoring started for SEAC on the power play early in the first, with the score being tied at 1-1 after 20 minutes.

Things quickly changed in Red Deer’s favour however, as the Rebels netted seven goals in the second period alone to take a commanding 8-1 lead over the Tigers.

Ethan Machan added a marker one minute into the third for SEAC, but the Tigers were unable to register their second win of the weekend with an 8-2 loss.

Goaltender Brendan Olson was pulled in the second period after allowing six goals on 24 shots, while Marek Andres allowed two goals on 16 shots in relief.

Sitting in last place in the Ram South Division with a 7-14-3 record, the Bantam AAA Tigers head for Lethbridge on January 14 to play the Golden Hawks.
