VIDEO: Carbon tax increase in effect in Alberta

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Increases for the Alberta Carbon Tax officially came into effect on Monday.

The tax increased from $20/tonne to $30/tonne on carbon, and the tax on gasoline has increased from 4.49 cents per litre to 6.73 cents per litre, while diesel has climbed from 5.35 cents to 8.03 cents.

The price for natural gas has also gone up, from $1.01 per gigajoule, to $1.51 per gigajoule.

Farm fuels are exempt from the carbon tax, and it does not apply to electricity.
