MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Travelodge Cubs came away with a single point following an overtime loss Thursday night.

Hosting the Coaldale Copperheads in the team’s final home game of 2017, the Cubs were able to tie the game late thanks to a late goal from Mackenzie Fritzler, but  Sam Paskuski of the Copperheads spoiled the comeback in overtime, handing the Cubs a 4-3 loss at the Kinplex.

Thursday’s game was a back-and-forth affair. Jayden Bexte got the scoring started early in the first period for the Copperheads. Chasen McKenna responded early in the second period for the Cubs, but Brandyn Howg again gave the Copperheads the lead.

At the start of the third period, Riley Florkowski evened the score for the Cubs, but Tyler Anderson took the lead again for the Copperheads. Fritzler responded shortly after with the tying goal, and the Cubs were able to keep the game tied until overtime.

Cubs goaltender Josh Breznik made 45 saves through 63 minutes of play during the loss.

The Cubs fall to a 9-14-1 record, and play their final game of 2017 on Saturday, travelling to Strathmore to take on the Wheatland Kings. Strathmore sits three points ahead of the Cubs in the South Division standings and hold the final playoff spot at this time.
