MEDICINE HAT, AB —The charges against a Medicine Hat man arrested in connection with a drug seizure earlier this year have been stayed.

John Mueller appeared in Medicine Hat provincial court on Wednesday, where, according to court check, the decision was made by the Crown to stay the charges.

Mueller was charged along with five other people in connection with a seizure of drugs and weapons from a home on Dominion Street in the Flats.

Police seized approximately $4,000 worth of methamphetamine, fentanyl and heroin, along with a loaded shotgun, ammunition and body armour during the arrest.

The 60-year-old was facing five charges, including trafficking methamphetamine, possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking, possession of fentanyl, possession of proceeds of crime and unauthorized possession of identification.

Police confirmed Mueller was the victim of a home invasion and assault in a Southview Drive apartment on October 28, where he suffered serious injuries.

Darren George Brooks, 37, was arrested and charged in connection with the assault last month. He makes his next court appearance on January 16.
