SEAC Midget Tigers lose eighth straight against Lethbridge

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The losing streak continued for the SEAC Minor Midget Tigers on Friday night, losing their eighth consecutive game against the Lethbridge Headwater Hurricanes.

Lethbridge got on the board early at the Hockey Hounds rink, scoring 1:05 into the contest from Blake Kondor on the power play to take a 1-0 lead.

The Hurricanes continued their strong play on special teams near the midway mark of the first, scoring on the man advantage again from J.D. Hall to jump ahead 2-0.

In the dying seconds of the period, Lethbridge increased their lead to 3-0 as Kolby James beat SEAC goalie Gage Reimer with 17 seconds remaining.

The rout continued in the second, with Hall getting his second of the night for the Hurricanes to make it a 4-0 contest with 9:31 left in the period.

SEAC finally were able to beat Lethbridge goaltender Cole Tisdale with 6:14 left in the frame, as Dre Leismeister scored to cut the lead to 4-1.

However, with 2:46 left in the period it was Easton Weasel Head potting Lethbridge’s fifth goal of the night to keep momentum on their side heading to the intermission.

Another power play goal for the Hurricanes came eight minutes into the third, boosting their lead to 6-1 off the blade of Dawson Leroux.

The Tigers got their second goal of the game with 7:15 remaining from captain Caleb Irvine, but the Hurricanes added a short-handed goal with 19 seconds left to seal a 7-2 win for Lethbridge.

Nate Hoffman started the game for SEAC but allowed one goal on three shots before leaving the game in favour of Reimer, who made 38 saves on 44 shots against.

Falling to a record of 2-17-1 on the year, the Tigers remain in last place in the Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League.

Looking to end 2017 on a high note, SEAC will face the AC Avalanche at the Hockey Hounds on Saturday at 2:15 pm for their final game before the Christmas break.

As for the SEAC Bantam AAA Tigers, they were not in action on Friday night but will kick start a two-game homestand on Saturday in Brooks against the Leduc Oil Kings.
