ST. CATHARINES, ON – Former Brooks Bandits defender Cale Makar will be suiting up for Team Canada at the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships.

On Friday night, Makar found out he was one of the seven defencemen to make the Canadian roster following a week-long selection camp in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Playing for the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, the freshman blueliner has compiled one goal and nine points in 16 games.

Makar played 111 career games with the Bandits over three seasons, scoring 135 points in that span and was drafted fourth overall by the Colorado Avalanche over the summer.

Although this is Makar’s first taste of World Juniors experience, he previously wore the maple leaf twice at the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge.

Joining Makar on the blueline this year will be returning defencemen Jake Bean, Kale Clague and Dante Fabbro, Montreal Canadiens defenceman Victor Mete, and newcomers Cal Foote and Conor Timmins.

Canada’s forward group will boast WHL’ers Dillon Dube, Sam Steel, Tyler Steenbergen and Brett Howden, along with Michael McLeod, Taylor Raddysh, Jordan Kyrou, Alex Formenton, Jonah Gadjovich, Boris Katchouk, Robert Thomas, Drake Batherson, and Maxime Comtois.

In net it will be Carter Hart returning between the pipes, while NCAA netminder Colton Point will serve as backup.

Team Canada will play in a pair of exhibition games against the Czech Republic and Switzerland, before getting the tournament started on Boxing Day against Finland.
