MEDICINE HAT, AB — Having not won since November 14th, Ethan Anders and the rest of the Red Deer Rebels were due.

The 17-year-old goaltender made 27 saves to help his Rebels end a dreadful 11-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night at the Canalta Centre.

Anders produced his best performance since October 10th against Everett, which was a 4-1 victory. That was the the last time the Regina-native allowed fewer than two goals. Red Deer will hunt down its second win in a row Saturday hosting the Tri-City Americans. The Rebels haven’t won two straight games since late October.

Alexander Alexeyev scored a pair, while Austin Pratt, and Grayson Pawlenchuk found the twine for the Rebels, who improve to 1-3-0-2 in the month of December. Pawlenchuk’s marker came late in the third period, stretching the Rebels lead to 3-1. Alexeyev cashed in on an empty netter with just over a minute to play.

Mason McCarty tacked on a pair of helpers in the Rebels 10th win of the season. Pratt’s marker early in the second served as the game winner.

Medicine Hat has now dropped six of the last seven, and will look to ends its four-game slide Saturday night against the last-place Edmonton Oil Kings.

Tigers captain Mark Rassell scored the lone tally for the home team, his 28th of the year. Max Gerlach and Joel Craven took the helpers on the goal, which was scored late in the second period to draw within one.

Medicine Hat is currently enduring its toughest stretch of the season, having won just two of the last 11 games. Jordan Hollett, starting his third consecutive game, took the loss with 18 saves on the night.

Both teams were held scoreless on the man-advantage. Medicine Hat was given three opportunities, while Red Deer failed on four separate attempts.

This wraps up home-ice play for the Tigers ahead of a nine-day Christmas break. They’ll return to the Canalta Centre on December 27th, hosting the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
