MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat High School Kwahommies have a sense of excitement following their perfect start to the season so far.

The Kwahommies have a 2-0 record since the season started last month, and are underway with their home tournament this weekend at Hat High.

“We’ve jumped out to a great start,” said head coach Jeff Harrold. “There’s a lot of potential, we’re working really hard, and it’s exciting right now.”

Harrold says this year’s team is younger, with Rhiannon Ware and Bretonnie Stenhouse being the only two Grade 12 students. However, he adds the team is talented and hard-working.

“We’re smaller, but we’re quicker than last year, and I think we’re able to press a little more than last year and run the floor,” he said.

Both the Kwahommies and Mohawks are in action at the tournament, which features several teams from the South Zone, along with others from Calgary. The tournament continues Friday night and wraps up on Saturday at Hat High.

“I think we’re going to do really well at this tournament,” Stenhouse said. “We’re all pretty pumped, we’ve been working super hard in practice, focusing on skills like shooting, dribbling and defence even, just allow us to grow during the season.

“I think this tournament will really give us the spectrum of where we’re at, and what we need to work on later on.”

Following the tournament, the Kwahommies resume league play, hosting the Chinook Coyotes at Hat High on Monday.
