EDMONTON, AB — Brooks-Strathmore MLA Derek Fildebrandt, who is currently dealing with a charge of hit and run in Edmonton, is now facing accusations of illegally shooting a deer.

Fildebrandt has been charged with unlawful possession of wildlife and entering onto private land without permission.

Alberta Justice says Fish and Wildlife officers were called on November 4 about a deer shot on private land in a field near Sundre, without permission of the landowner.

Fildebrandt, who sits as an Independent in the legislature, has said in a statement he didn’t realize he was on private land and has apologized. He says he has also donated the deer meat to a local food bank.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Didsbury on Feb. 2 on the charge.

Fildebrandt is also due in Edmonton court on Monday for a verdict on a hit and run charge. He is accused of hitting a neighbour’s van in Edmonton, and then driving away.
