SUFFIELD, AB — One man is dead following a motor vehicle collision near Suffield Friday night.

According to a release from Redcliff RCMP, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian Friday night at 11:30 p.m. The collision took place on Highway 884, not far from CFB Suffield.

RCMP say a pedestrian walking along the highway was struck by a motor vehicle. Officers were dispatched to the scene, and attended to the victim, before he was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries to his head and leg.

The man, who police say was in his late 20’s, was initially taken to hospital in Brooks before being transported to Calgary. He died from his injuries on Monday.

Staff Sgt. Sean Maxwell with the Redcliff RCMP says officers are getting close to wrapping up their investigation.

“We’ve got a few more investigative steps to take, however at this point, unless things change, we won’t be laying any charges, I don’t feel,” he said.

“At this point, that is just the way the nature of the investigation has gone forward with us.”

Maxwell says investigators have to speak to some more witnesses and are seeing if there is any surveillance footage from the base to assist in the investigation.

Maxwell called the entire incident tragic.

“Nobody needs to have that happen to them,” he said. “It’s just a very sad situation.”

The man’s name will not be released.
