RCMP confirm death of skier at Lake Louise during competition

LAKE LOUISE, AB — RCMP have confirmed a 17-year-old skier from Germany has died from injuries while competing at the Lake Louise Ski Resort on Tuesday.

At 3:20 p.m., Lake Louise RCMP were advised of a serious injury to a male competitor at the Downhill NorAm race at the ski resort. The skier lost control during his run, which resulted in a life-threatening injury.

Emergency first aid was provided on scene, and the male was transported by STARS Air Ambulance to hospital, but passed away from his injuries on Wednesday.

The RCMP is assisting the office of the Medical Examiner in the investigation into the death. No criminal charges are expected.
