Hounds split weekend road games

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Can Pak Environmental Hounds split a pair of games on the road over the weekend.

The Midget AA team were in Hussar Saturday and held on for a 2-1 victory over the Wheatland Chiefs, but dropped a Sunday tilt 4-2 in Vauxhall against the Taber Golden Suns.

All of the goals during Saturday’s game were scored in the second period. Ryley Manz got the scoring started with a shorthanded goal at 16:47. Brady Skiffington responded several minutes later to tie the game, but Dax Wandler was able to score the winning goal late in the period while on the power-play to give the Hounds the win. Jacob Milne and Bayden Anderson assisted on the goal.

Dawsen Savage faced 36 shots during the win on Saturday.

During Sunday’s game, Seth McCulloch and Cody Strange with the Golden Suns scored in the first to give their team a 2-0 lead. Manz found the net in the second, and Dawson Hittel tied the game early in the third, however Kole Fujita gave the Golden Suns the lead with 1:05 left in the game. Jayden Kostiuk added an empty net goal to seal the victory.

Austin Klimoski, Matt Lafferty, Peyton Cox and Connor Miller all had assists for the Hounds during the game.

Savage and Aidan Kruger shared time in goal, and faced 23 shots during the game.

The Hounds, whose record now sits at 7-7, are on the road this weekend. The team battles the Lethbridge Hurricanes, who lead the South Conference, on Friday at 7 p.m., and take on the Calgary Rangers at 3 p.m.
