Rattlers volleyball teams swept at the hands of Briercrest College

CARONPORT, SK – Medicine Hat College Rattlers volleyball teams are heading into the Christmas break empty handed, losing two more matches Saturday at Briercrest University.

Both the men’s and women’s teams were coming off losses to the Clippers on Friday as well, with the men’s team falling in four sets and the women’s squad in three.

The Rattlers men’s team came out determined in the first set registering 10 kills, but ultimately fell to the Clippers by a 25-22 score.

Briercrest took advantage in the second set with 12 kills of their own, boosting their lead to 2-0 with a 25-18 win over Medicine Hat.

The Rattlers weren’t able to turn the tide in the third set, only racking up five kills and losing the set and match by a 25-16 count.

Brodie Dolter was the standout offensively for Medicine Hat in the loss, registering 10 kills and a pair of digs for the Rattlers.

Losing back-to-back games for the first time this season, the Rattlers are now 9-3 on the 2017-18 season and have dropped into second place in the ACAC South Division.

As for the Rattlers ladies, they went toe-to-toe with the Clippers for much of the opening set but ended up falling 25-18.

Medicine Hat’s attacking ability dried up in the second set with only two kills to their name, falling behind in the match 2-0 with a 25-11 loss.

In the third set, Briercrest exploded for 18 kills on the Rattlers en-route to a 25-12 win and their second straight sweep over Medicine Hat.

Paige Burton had a team-high four kills in the loss for the Rattlers, while her teammate in Shaya Suchy led the team with six digs.

Now sitting with a 4-8 record on the season, Medicine Hat heads into the Christmas break tied for fifth place in the South Division with the SAIT Trojans.

Off until 2018, the Rattlers will return to action on January 5 in Calgary when they start a home-and-home series with SAIT.
