MEDICINE HAT, AB. – The Medicine Hat Public Library opened their newly renovated Theatre space. On Saturday, November 25th the Theatre welcomed guests of all ages to come and view the new space while taking in a viewing, ‘Despicable Me 3.’

Shelly Ross, Chief Liberian said they are thrilled to have the new space open to the public after almost 8 months of renovations.

“It’s gorgeous, it’s entirely a new envelope, acoustically beautiful, ascetically beautiful, the seats are comfortable, it smells new; it’s just wonderful,” she said.

The 152 seat theatre received $620,000 in private donations, provincial and federal government grants to cover some of the renovate and Ross said they are excited to host a variety of different events.

“We love to do book and literature, but we also show documentaries, we bring in science speakers, we have Friends of Medicare, just all kinds of community groups come to share their knowledge,” she explained.

There are a few changes to the theatre with the renovations including acoustic noise isolation from the outside and a wheel chair accessible area.

“In the old theatre there wasn’t even a flat space where anyone could sit in a wheel chair comfortably and now we have a really nice space, just in the center and raised, so that if you’re in a wheel chair or using a walker and want to sit on your walker there is a space for you now,” she said.
