MEDICINE HAT, AB — A special charity auction is taking place today to assist a rancher who lost his cattle during last month’s wildfire.

The auction, which take place at the Medicine Hat Feeding Company, involves a highland steer, and proceeds from the sale of the steer will be donated to Empress rancher Sid McCurdy who lost 98 cows and 98 calves during the wildfire. His loss is estimated at $400,000.

The special auction will take place at 11 a.m. The company is hoping the cattle will be sold and donated several times during the sale to increase the money raised.

The steer is being donated by Mike Shapley.
