DRYDEN, ONTARIO — An Alberta man who no-showed his sentencing in Medicine Hat last month has been arrested in Ontario.

Paul Rasmussen of Red Deer, was arrested November 5 near Dryden Ontario by Ontario Provincial Police. According to Kenora Online, police in Dryden received several complaints in regards to a vehicle that was weaving in and out of traffic on Highway 17 near Zealand Township, located east of Dryden.

A traffic stop resulted in Rasmussen’s arrest.

He has been charged with one court each of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, refusing to provide a sample, possession of methamphetamine, driving with a disqualified licence, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order and four courts of failure to comply with recognizance.

Rasmussen was arrested along with Siofean Coderre, 43, on May 25, following an investigation involving the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT), RCMP and the Medicine Hat Police Service’s Organized Crime Unit.

During the arrest, police seized 325 grams of methamphetamine, 100 Oxycodone pills, one gram of heroin and 3.5 grams of cocaine. A replica handgun, a prohibited magazine and other ammunition was also seized.

The total value of the seized drugs is estimated at $33,000.

Rasmussen pleaded guilty to 20 charges, and was scheduled to be sentenced on October 31, but did not appear in court.

He remains in custody in Ontario and is scheduled to appear back in provincial court in Dryden on December 4. There is no word yet on whether he will be sent back to Alberta to be sentenced on his charges.
