AUDIO: Valk called up by Florida Panthers

SUNRISE, FLORIDA — Curtis Valk has been called up to the NHL.

The 24-year-old forward, who was born and raised in Mediicne Hat, has been recalled from the American Hockey League’s Springfield Thunderbirds by the Florida Panthers, according to the AHL Transactions page on Monday.

Valk, who played with the Medicine Hat Tigers through his junior career, finished his WHL Career with 255 points and was team captain of the Tigers.

Upon his graduation from the WHL, Valk spent two seasons with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL and three seasons with the AHL’s Utica Comets, scoring 46 points in 75 games last season. He was signed to an entry-level deal by the Florida Panthers this summer.

This season, Valk has 15 points (6 goals, nine assists) in 16 games with the Thunderbirds.

The Panthers host the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night, and Valk will be in the lineup for the game.
