Construction continues to remain on time for Leader health facility

LEADER, SASK. — The Cypress Health Region says the first of three wings to the town’s new health care facility has been completed.

The renovations to the first wing of the Western Senior Citizens Home was completed on October 27 with residents re-occupying the wing on October 30. Improvements include new safety features, such as ceiling lifts, a new handheld nurse calling system and improved hand rails.

Renovation work has now shifted to the west wing and nursing station area. Each wing takes approximately 10-12 weeks for renovations to be completed.

Once complete, the new wing will be part of the Leader and District Integrated Healthcare Facility.

The remaining construction of the facility continues on time and on budget. According a a news release, recent construction activity has included the installation of roof cap sheeting to create a water tight surface, as well as ongoing ductwork, electrical, and plumbing services, and building the final enclosures of the building, including exterior door installations.

The budget of the new facility is $12 million, and is expected to open in Summer 2018.
