MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat Police are investigating a fourth hoax bomb threat in Crescent Heights.

According to the Medicine Hat Police Service’s calls for service, a bomb threat was reported at the CIBC on Eighth Street Northwest shortly after 2 p.m. on Thursday.

The bank was temporarily evacuated as a precaution, but the threat was determined to be a hoax.

Police say the threat is the fourth in the area since October 27.

Police were called to Servus Credit Union twice for two hoax threats. According to police, On October 26, an item was placed in front of Servus Credit Union, which prompted the Explosive Disposal Unit to respond to the scene and render the item safe. Investigators called the item an unsophisticated mock explosive device.

On October 31, police once again responded to Servus Credit Union, after a threat was once again called into the bank. Police attended the scene and determined the threat was once again a hoax.

Information about the fourth threat was not immediately known.

Police are investigating all files independently, but they believe the same person or persons may be responsible for all of the calls. The most recent threat appears to have been made from an off-site location.

Further information regarding a potential suspect will be released once the information has been corroborated, the release says.

Anyone with information is asked to call Medicine Hat Police at 403-529-8481 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
