Police in Edmonton lay charges in historic fentanyl seizure

EDMONTON — Edmonton Police have laid charges in connection with the largest fentanyl seizure in Canada earlier this summer.

In a news release, Edmonton police announced four people were arrested and cahrged Monday in connection with the bust on July 31.

Landen Wisbey, 33, has been charged with six counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime and production of a controlled substance.

Wayne Tran, 31, has been charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of proceeds of crime and production of a controlled substance.

Dennis Trinh, 34, has been charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.

Thinh Dinh, 29, has been charged with five counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Police began investigating the file in March. On July 5, members of the Edmonton Drug and Gang Enforcement (EDGE) Unit conducted a search warrant on a residence in Edmonton and seized 67,000 fentanyl pills with an estimated street value of $2 Million.

Search warrants were also executes for three more homes in Edmonton, along with a home in Sturgeon County. In the home in Sturgeon County, police say a fentanyl processing lab was discovered, and the house was deemed “unfit for human habitation” by Alberta Health Services.

At the conclusion of the investigation, police seized a total of 130,000 fentanyl pills, with an estimated street value of $3.9 million. Police also seized four ounces of carfentanil, 658 grams of fentanyl laced powders, 834 packages of cannabis extract, 2.4 kilograms of cocaine, 1.8 kilograms of methamphetamine and 100 kilograms of buffing agents.

The remaining drugs seized have an estimated street value of $368,000.

In addition, more than $1 million in cash, four large cement mixers, two pill presses, and a 2001 Ford F-150 with a hidden compartment were seized.
