SASKATOON, SASK. — A former sports anchor and news director from Winnipeg currently in custody in Medicine Hat on robbery charges has been charged with robbery in a third city.

Saskatoon Police have requested a warrant for Steve Vogelsang, 53, in connection with a robbery in Saskatoon in July. The robbery took place on July 31.

Vogelsang is facing two charges in Medicine Hat after allegedly robbing two banks in the city October 19 and 20. He was arrested on October 21 at a hotel in Medicine Hat.

Vogelsang was a journalism instructor at Red River College in Winnipeg from 2002 until 2011, and before that, he worked as a sports anchor at CKY, which is now CTV Winnipeg, before becoming news director.

On October 27, Vogelsang was charged with three counts of robbery by the Regina Police Service. The robberies in Regina took place on July 8 at a bank on 7th Avenue North, October 13 at a bank on Albert Street and October 18 at a bank on Gordon Road.

In all three cities, police allege a man walked up to employees at the bank, indicated he had a weapon and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Vogelsang remains in custody in Medicine Hat and is scheduled to appear in court on November 9. It is not known yet when he will answer to the charges in Saskatoon and Regina.
