Calgary trailer park residents take the city to court over eviction notices

CALGARY, AB – The handful of residents that remain at a Calgary mobile home park say they’re being evicted from their homes by the city.

And now, they’re taking the matter to court.

Lawyer Matthew Farrell has filed a class-action lawsuit for residents at Midfield Mobile Home Park, three years after the city informed them to move. The city told residents in 2014 that the park’s water and sewer lines are aging, and repairs or replacements will be too expensive.

The city offered residents $20,000 for relocation costs, and many residents took the money before the September 30 deadline.

Farrell argues the city breached provincial regulations by not maintaining the park’s water and sewer lines.

These claims have not been proven in court. The first court appearance is scheduled for November 22.
